infinite space
The project hoped to challenge people to think about space in a playful manner and get the viewer thinking about big ideas by accessing a physical space that synthesised infinity. The installation itself was formed inside a cubed room accessed by a ‘black hole’ on one side of the cubed structure. From the well-lit external room, the viewer is plunged into colourful darkness surrounded by wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling mirrors.
The mirrors created an endlessly reflective illusion, creating a perfect setting to recreate the infinite boundaries of space. Lit by an ultraviolet lamp, which illuminates the laser-shaped perspex stars, planets, orbiting moons, and nebular gas in brilliant UV colours, the astral scene created a hallucinatory experience of depth and endlessness. Within this infinity room, you can peer into a black hole vortex, consuming the stars and all matter surrounding it.
